This Lodge is actually the home of the owners, Janice and Noel Fisher and is tastefully furnished with hand crafted oregan “cottage furniture”. It is beautifully set on the edge of the forest which brings with it wonderful bird life and sounds that tell you that it is home to all sorts of fauna. Often buck will appear in the garden with visits from monkeys, guinea fowl and even the shy “rooikat” has been spotted. This aside, the estate also has its own herd of fallow deer that freely roam the estate at will and can be seen grazing each and every day. It is most unlikely that you won’t get a sighting of the beautiful Knysna lourie during your stay at one of the lodges.

This lodge can comfortably sleep eight adults using the four en-suite bedrooms, all of which open on to an open plan lounge and dining area. There is a quiet spot for reading or you can pass through sliding doors on to an elevated covered deck and just relax, taking in the north and west vistas of the forest.

There is a very functional kitchen fitted with electrical appliances that include a dishwasher, tumble dryer and heavy duty washing machine. Off the kitchen is a breakfast nook that apart from being very practical and useful, offers spectacular views of the rich green rolling meadows making up the countryside and of course the ever intriguing forest.

A choice of decks leads you to stairs that will give you access to various parts of the garden where you can take a walk or choose to sit on one of the garden benches and read or just soak up the myriad of views.

Attached to the house and at ground level is a self contained garden flat that is ideal for two people which allows Forest Lodge to actually sleep ten people if necessary. The facility has en-suite shower, toilet and wash hand basin with a split level kitchenette and lounging area. The flat has immediate access to the terraced garden.

The bird life is plentiful on the estate hence the name. This lodge offers 6 bedrooms, four of which are en-suite and two in the downstairs area share one full bathroom (Toilet, basin, bath and shower). Downstairs is well suited for kiddies and can be converted to sleep eight if necessary. From the main bedroom one steps through sliding doors on to a “Romeo & Juliet” balcony from where looking west, one captures an inspiring vista of the rolling hills and meadows, not to speak of the breathtaking sunsets that only Africa can offer.

Upstairs is a comfortable lounge leading off the dining area where up to twelve people can dine around a crafted yellow wood table matched with high back dining chairs hand made in Knysna from a combination of yellow wood and black wood. A sliding door from the dining area takes one on to an expansive upper deck, also suitable for serving breakfasts or just enjoying a sundowner after a day spent at the beach or boating on the picturesque Keurbooms River while one takes in the western vista as the sun bids you farewell. The kitchen is fitted with a microwave and dishwasher and has a stand alone pantry. A separate laundry is equipped with washer and tumble dryer.

Down the stairwell leads you in to the entertainment area for listening to music or viewing your favorite video or DVD. Otherwise just relax and read or sit yourself down at the designer pub and enjoy a cocktail or two and some good conversation with your companions. Otherwise step out on to the lower deck to view the sunset or take a stroll in the garden amongst the many indigenous plants and beautiful yellow wood trees.
